The Magic of Hidden Diamonds

December 26, 2023

Glass doorknobs sparkling in the sunlight were really hidden diamonds. The crystal multi-level candy dish on the coffee table held other secrets. Delicious smells were wafting from the kitchen.

The rosewood baby grand piano in the corner that would someday be mine, was aching for someone to play it. My grandmother’s house always seemed magical.

I idolized Nanny and loved her deeply. She was my first model of a powerful, independent woman, and she had a tremendous influence on me and my beliefs.

When Nanny was fifteen years old, she was such an accomplished pianist she earned a full scholarship to study with a famous maestro in Belgium. Her father feared for her safety and refused to let her go. There were lots of tears, but her father’s rule was the law.

Instead of becoming a concert pianist, Nanny became a professional piano teacher, picked a husband, had my dad, and taught piano for fifty years. She worked with what she had and created a full and rewarding life, even if it wasn’t the life of her dreams. I often hear Nanny’s voice in my head as a guiding light.

Today’s Question:

Who was your most influential role model? How did they impact who you are today and what is most important to you?

But Here’s the Twist
. . .

Who considers YOU a role model? At times, we are fortunate to find out and sometimes we just don’t know.

My mom modeled kindness and compassion, my high school English teacher modeled intellect and style, and my first female boss modeled collaborative leadership. My clients awe and inspire me with their passion and ambition for their work and the way they support those around them.

I have worked hard to be a role model for my children (and something must have worked because they are all three business owners!)

Now What?

If your role models are still around, don’t miss the opportunity to tell them how they have influenced you. It is often the greatest compliment you can pay someone and the chance to do so is frequently lost. In many ways, your role models are the real hidden diamonds!

Start the new year with some magic of your own, by thanking your role models.

I wish you and your family a healthy, Happy New Year!

I
'd love to hear what you think.  I read and respond to every email personally.

P.S. Are you giving 'invisible' discounts to prospects who didn't ask for them? The anxiety you feel when talking with a potential client leaks out when you slash your price because you're afraid you'll lose the opportunity if you don't.

I’ve broken down exactly why this 'discount dilemma' happens in an exclusive training called The Value Equation, which you can get for FREE by signing up for the bonuses that are companion pieces for my book, Your Hidden Advantage.

My life’s work is empowering high-achieving women business owners to fine-tune their operations and scale their revenue for strategic growth, creating real business value and emerging exit ready. That value can transform into wealth when they are ready to exit their company - and I believe that wealth in the hands of women elevates society as a whole.
